No. 3 Juniata Takes Game from D-1 Harvard, But Falls 3-1 at Tourney

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Despite a valiant effort against NCAA Division I opponent Harvard, No. 3 Juniata fell 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-17, 25-13) Saturday in the consolation game of the Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament.  Sophomore Mark Feiler (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) was named to the All-Tournament Team.  He is hitting .308 this season.

 

Juniata (4-2) rebounded after dropping game one by taking the lead early in game two and never letting it go.  Game three was the swing game for the match.  There were 12 ties and three lead changes before Harvard pulled away.

 

Junior Ross Madden (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) led with a team-high 10 kills.  Madden also had a team-high eight digs.  Freshman Carlos Faccio (Guaynabo, P.R./San Ignacio) and senior Rob Strauss (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) split setting duties.  They finished with 16 and 14 assists, respectively.

 

Juniata stays on the road for its first Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) event of the year.  The Eagles travel to Thiel College Feb. 9-10 to play in the CVC Crossover.    They will face Thiel and No. 2 Carthage on Feb. 9 and see Fontbonne and Stevenson on Feb. 10.
