McColgin Named Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Junior Alex McColgin (Buffalo, N.Y./Hamburg) has been named the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Player of the Week, the organization announced Thursday.  He helped lead the No. 3 Eagles to a 2-0 week with wins over No. 11 Vassar and No. 15 Elmira.

"It's good recognition for Alex," said head coach Kevin Moore.  "It's a sign of how hard he worked to come back from his injury last year.  To return to a high level of play that's on par, if not higher than when he left."

McColgin recorded 28 kills with a  .489 hitting percentage.  The 6-1 opposite hitter finished the week with 35 points after picking up four aces and six blocks.

Juniata travels to the birthplace of volleyball this weekend to compete in the Volleyball Hall of Fame/Morgan Classic hosted by No. 1 Springfield College.

"Over the next few days, this is going to be a very physically, mentally and emotionally trying time for our guys," added Moore.  "The opportunity to be involved in the volleyball community from a larger standpoint with the Volleyball Hall of Fame and the clinic going on, those are great opportunities for our athletes to give back to the sport."

The Eagles are undefeated (4-0) heading into the weekend and have a 2-0 record against ranked opponents.  They will battle host Springfield Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. before taking on either Harvard or Loyola, both NCAA Division I programs on Saturday, Feb. 2.
