No. 3 Eagles hold on for 3-2 win over No. 15 Elmira

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The No. 3 Juniata men's volleyball team moved to 3-0 after holding on for the 3-2 (25-21, 25-16, 18-25, 28-30, 15-11) win over No. 15 Elmira Saturday afternoon in the Kennedy Sports+Recreation Center.  Junior Alex McColgin (Buffalo, N.Y./Hamburg) led the Eagles with 18 kills.

"I thought Alex McCoglin looked really good," said Head Coach Kevin Moore.  "This was his first full match back after his ACL tear last year and he carried the load for us offensively."

Senior Rob Strauss (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) paced the offense and finished with a team-high 37 assists.  The Eagles defense picked up 47 digs to Elmira's 44 and out-blocked them 14.5-8.5.  Leading on the back line was junior Ross Madden (Richmond, Va./Deep Run).  He finished with a team-high 12 digs and sophomore Eric McCarthy (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) grabbed 10 digs, respectively.

"We're asking [Ross] to take a leadership role on the defense and he certainly stepped up," added Moore.

Juniata will face No. 11 Vassar tonight in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m.  They are 10-2 all-time against the Brewers and have won the program's last three meetings.
