Oberlin, Pa. Juniata College's men's tennis was in action this weekend, competing in the Oberlin Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The eagles achieved mixed results in their first outing of the 2014-15 season.
Leading the way for the Eagles was junior Logan Moore (Chadds Ford, Pa. / Unionville). Moore won all three of his singles matches, defeating Baldwin Wallace's Dan Rowsey 6-2, 6-0 in round one, Brandon Caynor 6-1, 6-0 in round two, and Alex Papke 6-1, 6-0 in his final match. Moore's success carried over to the doubles where he teamed up with Sho Sato (Shiga, Japan)to help Juniata claim and 8-5 victory over a pair from Wooster.
Sophomore Dean Polisena (Adelade, Australia / Saint Ignatius) was the only other Eagleto win a singles match defeating Wooster's Wilson Nelson 6-1, 6-3 in round two and Case Western's Fred Daum 6-3, 6-3 in round 3. He nearly had a win in the first round when he pushed Denison's Jeffery Loduca to a super-tiebreaker but fell 2-6, 7-6, 11-9 . Polisena and his doubles partner freshman Matyas Kohout (Krhanice, Czech Republic / Gymnasium Jizni Mesto) defeated a pair from Wooster 9-7 in the final round of play.
Juniata continues the season next weekend as they participate in the ITA Regional. Match times TBD.
