Mona claims first in 1,650 Freestyle at Virtual Landmark Championships

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's swim team took fourth in virtual Landmark Championships this weekend.

Due to unprecedented times, the 2021 Landmark Conference Championship meet was held virtually at each of the the four schools. Catholic University took first with 680 points, Drew University came in second with 403 points, The University of Scranton came in third with 333 points, and Juniata College finished fourth with 52 points. The meet will finish next weekend with the schools that offer diving. 

Hunter Mona (State College, Pa. / State College Area) became Juniata's first individual champion since joining the Landmark Conference. Mona will also be named to the Landmark All-Conference first team for his first place finish. Mona touched the wall at 16:57.43. 

In the 500 freestyle, Mona claimed second place clocking in at 4:51.39, just one second behind the first place finisher. Mona's second place finish will also earn him a spot on the Landmark All-Conference second team. In the 50 freestyle, Evan Walker (Versailles, Pa. / East Allegheny) placed 15th with a time of 23.88. Mona also finished second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:18.69. Mona earned another nod to the Landmark All-Conference second team with his 400 IM finish. 

In the 100 butterfly, Walker placed eighth coming in with a time of 56.92. Walker also placed eighth in the 200 butterfly, clocking in at 2:14.80.
