SCRANTON, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team won on the road at the University of Scranton, 2-0, Saturday afternoon. It is the second time the men's soccer team has defeated Scranton, with the last win occurring in Huntingdon in overtime in 2013.
Jase Colino and Jalen Holliday each scored, while Brandon Marzula had an assist. Maxwell Mattioni made three saves in the game for Juniata.
The teams were tied at halftime 0-0, with the Royals outshooting Juniata 6-1 at the half.
Nine minutes into the second half, Marzula got to an errant pass from the Royal goalie and passed it ahead to Colino near the 18. Colino let the ball run in front of him before scorching a shot into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0.
In the 77th minute, Victor Vandenbroek cleared a ball from the Eagle half that landed on the Scranton half of the field, which their final defender tried to control, but the ball rolled away from them a smidge. That was all that Holliday needed as he raced in and poked the ball away. Another Royal defender tried to slide in to knock the ball away, but Holliday nudged the ball ahead and eluded the tackle. Around the 18, he fired the ball into the top right corner to seal the win.
Juniata outshot Scranton 4-3 in the second half, as the Royals had a 9-5 advantage in shots and a 4-2 lead on corners in the contest.
The Eagles are two points clear in first place and will look to keep up their winning ways as they play at Susquehanna Wednesday at 7:00
