Huntingdon, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team scored in the final 22 seconds to complete the comeback and get the win over visiting Goucher, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.
Shawn Tanaka scored a goal and had an assist, Beckett Young scored one goal, and Nathan Weick had an assist. Maxwell Mattioni made two saves in goal for the Eagles.
In the 36th minute, Goucher broke through as a through ball in the box got through to one of their attackers, who put it in the left corner to make it 1-0.
Juniata held a narrow 7-6 advantage in shots in the first half.
In the 75th minute, Jase Colino turned past his defender and drew a foul in the box. Brandon Marzula stepped forward, but the Gopher keeper stopped his low shot.
Six minutes later, Weick, isolated on the left side, slalomed past his defender as he headed towards the end line before crossing with his left foot. Tanaka tapped it in at the back post to make it 1-1.
In the final 30 seconds of the match, Tanaka beat his defender down the right side and crossed the ball to Young eight yards out, who headed the ball into the top right corner.
The Eagles dominated the second half, taking 11 shots to Goucher's 1.
Juniata has won their first two conference matches for the first time since joining the Landmark Conference. It is their first win over Goucher since 2019.
