Tartans Top Eagles

Tartans Top Eagles

PITTSBURGH, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team lost on the road at Carnegie Mellon, 2-0, Wednesday evening.

It was a physical game that saw the Eagles on the defensive, but they were up for the task as they constantly stymied the Tartan build-up. In the 15th minute, Sean Weiland took the first shot for the Eagles, but it was wide of the goal.

Jalen Holliday got a shot off in the 40th minute, but it was off-target as well.

The game was transformed in the 42nd minute when Donovan Goad went to control a loose ball in the air, and a Tartan player attempted to head the ball, running into Goad's foot. The CMU player crashed to the turf, but, to this humble scribe, the contact appeared incidental. The referee felt it merited a straight red card, putting Juniata down to 10 men for the remainder of the match.

The Eagles made it to halftime with the score 0-0 and battled valiantly down a man.

The hosts broke through in the 65th minute, heading in a corner at the back post.

They added a second in the 86th to put the game away.

Maxwell Mattioni made five saves in goal.

Juniata returns to action this Saturday at home against Drew to begin Landmark Conference play.
