Eagles Open Season with Loss to Golden Wolves

Eagles Open Season with Loss to Golden Wolves

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- After their home opener was postponed last weekend, the Juniata Men's Lacrosse team waited a week to get their season started at Gibbel Stadium against the Alvernia University Golden Wolves on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

The Eagles fell to Alvernia by a score of 12-5.

Kolton Black scored two goals for Juniata, while Zachary Forrest, Cam Barben and Aiden Duran each added one. Goalie Ryan Madison tallied 12 saves on 24 shots on the day.

Forrest got the Eagles off to a 1-0 lead early in the game on a pass from Black, but the Golden Wolves came back with four unanswered goals to lead the game 4-1 at the end of the first quarter. They built their lead up to five going into the halftime break up 7-2. Black scored his first of two unassisted goals in the second period.

Each team scored two goals in the third period to put the score at 9-4 before Alvernia would add three more in the fourth to seal the win. Barben opened up his scorebook on a pass from Vincent Bechler with 1:18 left in the third quarter.

Duran would add one more goal for the Eagles on a scramble in front of the Alvernia goal which he was able to scoop up and fire home with 5:14 left in the game.

The Eagles will fall to 0-1 on the season and look to bounce back away at St. Mary's College of Maryland on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
