Juniata falls in ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Semifinal match 2-0

Reading, Pa. – Juniata College field hockey ended the 2011 season with a loss in the ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Tournament Semifinal match against Alvernia College, 2-0.

Juniata (11-9) couldn't produce enough offense to take down the Crusaders of Alvernia University, after being outshot 17-8. Sophomore Emma Dahmus (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) led the Eagle attack with four shots, two on goal; and seniors Shauna Deschenes (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita), Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield), Molly Snyder (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) and Kara Buda (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley) each took one shot apiece in an attempt to score.

Junior goalkeeper Janelle Howard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) recorded seven saves in 70 minutes of action, but couldn't keep the Crusaders at bay, allowing one goal each half.

Alvernia took a 1-0 lead early in the 14th minute and held Juniata to just two shots in the first half. Juniata came out strong in the second half, taking the first three shots of the half before the Crusaders rebounded off a save by Howard to score their second goal in the 47th minute.

Alvernia will continue on to the ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Tournament Final against the winner of the semifinal game between #1 seeded Lebanon Valley and #4 seeded Stevens Tech in Reading, Pa. tomorrow at 11:00 am.
