FROSTBURG, Md. – A run of four goals in the span of just over 10 minutes early in the first half provided all the offense Juniata College field hockey would need in a 9-1 trouncing of Frostburg State, Tuesday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.
Two-and-a-half minutes after Price's goal to put Juniata in front 2-0, junior Shauna Deschenes (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) stretched the lead to 3-0 when she logged her sixth of the season off a feed from Price. Slightly over three minutes after that, Caroline Phillips (Wilmington, Del./Concord) buried a shot at the back of the Frostburg cage.
Price ended the run with a second goal just under four minutes later, allowing Juniata to head into the intermission with a 5-0 lead.
Junior Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) scored her second of the game with 24:01 remaining in the second half, and Price fed Caitlyn Bowman (Seven Valleys, Pa./Dallastown) about two-and-a-half minutes later to make the score 7-0 in Juniata's favor. Morgan Slovin (Hockessin, Del./Charter School) and Amrod each scored within the next two minutes, padding the Juniata lead.
Frostburg State (2-10) spoiled Juniata's shutout bid with 18:58 left in the game, when Shonna Ferree scored off an assist by Amanda Lennon.
Juniata goalie Moira Nugent (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) made a pair of saves in her 59 minutes in the Eagle cage. She was relieved by Janelle Howard (Mechanicsburg, Pa,/Cumberland Valley) with nearly 11 minutes remaining in the game, but Howard was unchallenged during her short stint. FSU goalie Malory Brunett recorded 12 saves in her 70 minutes in goal, and was charged with all nine goals allowed.
Juniata returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 30, when it travels to Washington, Pa., to face Washington & Jefferson College.
