HUNTINGDON, PA- The Juniata football team lost to the visiting Lycoming Warriors on Saturday by a final score of 45-0.
Lycoming had opened their lead in just over three minutes of play, as they completed a 47-yard touchdown pass on their opening drive of the game.
The Eagles drove down to the Lycoming 30 yard line on the following drive, but turned the ball over after an incompletion on a fourth down play.
The rest of the first quarter followed suit, as Lycoming scored three more times and the Eagles' next two drives resulted in a punt, and another turnover on downs.
Down 28-0, it was difficult for the Eagles to come back, especially after three offensive turnovers in the second quarter. The Eagles defense did well to minimize the Lycoming scoring, forcing two turnovers of their own with an interception by Cole Claycomb and a forced fumble and fumble recovery by Ethan Shank on the one yard line.
After a touchdown and a field goal, the Warriors led 38-0 at the half.
The second half followed many of the same trends as the first, with both defenses playing strong. Lycoming made another interception on the Eagles two opening drives, the second of which came on a 3rd & goal and the Eagles' best drive of the day. The Eagles had another drive late in the game that ended on a 4th & goal play where they came up short despite a completion. Field goals were not going to get the Eagles back into the game at this point, so the decision to go for it was understandable.
The lone touchdown of the second half came on the opening drive of the fourth quarter, giving Lycoming the 45-0 lead that would last until the end of the match.
Calvin German threw for 157 yards on the day while Sean Hakanson led in receiving with 75 yards on six receptions. Several Eagles contributed to the run game, led by Alex Eaton, who rushed for 57 yards, and Logan Williams led with nine total tackles on defense.
The Eagles will travel for their final away match of the season at Keystone College next Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
