Eagles Fall to River Hawks on the Road

Eagles Fall to River Hawks on the Road

SELINSGROVE, PA- The Juniata football team fell to the Susquehanna Univeristy River Hawks on the road on Saturday by a final score of 66-21.

The River Hawks got out on the front foot, scoring touchdowns on their first two offensive drives, and turning the Eagles over on downs when they were four yards from the end zone. That turnover led to a 96 yard score for Susquehanna, who led 21-0 by the end of the opening quarter.

The Eagles didn't take long to bounce back, as Sean Hakanson caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Calvin German , capping off a 12-play, 80-yard, and 5:24 drive to make it 21-7 early in the second quarter.

And that wasn't the only time Hakanson would score off a German pass. The Hakanson-German connection showed up again on the Eagles' first play of their next offensive drive, this time going for a 75-yard score to make it 28-14 mid-way through the second quarter.

By the end of the half, Susquehanna scored two more touchdowns to lead 42-14.

The Eagles improved in containing the River Hawks in the second half as Dawson Booher intercepted the quarterback on their first drive, and the Eagles' defense forced a punt on the second drive. After an Eagles punt, Susquehanna added another score, only for the Eagles to come right back and score on their ensuing drive. German found Quintin Stephens on a nine-yard strike with 6:07 left in the third quarter which ended 56-21 in favor of the River Hawks.

A turnover on downs, an interception, and a punt hurt the Eagles in the fourth quarter, as the River Hawks continued scoring to a 66-21 final score.

German threw for 371 yards and three touchdowns while Hakanson led in receiving with 145 yards on seven receptions, including his two touchdowns. Hunter Wolfley added 37 yards on the ground and Ethan Shank led in defense contributing 12 total tackles on the day.

The Eagles will look to bounce back next Saturday on the road at 1:30 p.m. when they face Moravian University.
