HUNTINGDON, PA- Juniata football hosted the Shenandoah University Hornets on Saturday afternoon for their homecoming and family weekend game and fell by a final score of 62-27.
It was going to be a shootout as both teams scored on every drive which ended in the first quarter. After holding the Hornets to a field goal on the opening drive, the Eagles' offense burst into the end zone on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Calvin German to Quintin Stephens.
The Hornets scored on their following drive to take a short-lived lead as the Eagles responded right away with another touchdown by Hunter Wolfley to cap off an 11 play- and 75-yard drive. The Hornets were able to sneak in one more score before the end of the quarter to lead the Eagles 17-13.
In the second quarter the scoring lulled for the first couple of drives until Shenandoah forced a fumble to set them up in good field position. They would convert that fumble into seven more points and take a 24-13 lead. After some more scoring from the Hornets, the Eagles' offense came out with 3:30 left in the first half. On consistent rushing from Ivan Foreman and Dillon Wakefield, the Eagles drove down the field and scored again through a seven-yard rush from German, his first touchdown of the year. The first half ended 34-20 in favor of the Hornets.
Wolfley opened up the third quarter with a 76-yard bomb on the first play from scrimmage, bursting through the secondary and evading tacklers.
The Eagles came within a touchdown at 34-27.
Shenandoah took control on both sides of the ball in the remainder of the game. They scored three touchdowns in the third quarter, and one more in the fourth quarter while holding the Eagles to just 104 yards of total offense after Wolfley's early second-half score. The game ended 62-27.
German passed for 215 yards and threw a touchdown to Stephens, who gained 86 yards on nine receptions. Wolfley rushed for 128 yards in addition to his touchdown, and Logan Williams led on defense with 10 tackles.
The Eagles will move to 1-3 and look to bounce back at home again next Friday at 6:00 p.m. when they host Wilkes University.
