Juniata football picked ninth in Centennial preseason poll

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College football team was picked to finish ninth in 2009, in preseason voting of the league’s nine head coaches and sports information directors. The Centennial’s preseason poll was released Wednesday, in conjunction with an online live chat with media and the public for the league’s media day.

Juniata, led by first-year head coach Carmen Felus, finished with 22 points in the poll. The Eagles, who finished 1-9 overall, 1-7 Centennial, last season, return seven offensive starters, seven defensive starters, and one starter among the specialists in 2009. The Eagles will have 42 returning letterwinners with preseason practice begins on August 13.

Johns Hopkins finished atop the Centennial poll with 115 points and 10 first-place votes, while Muhlenberg and Dickinson were tied for second with 102 points.  Moravian was fourth with 91 points, with Gettysburg fifth (75), Franklin & Marshall sixth (63), and Ursinus seventh (45). McDaniel College was ahead of Juniata in eighth place with 26 points.

Juniata will open its 2009 regular season on Saturday, Sept. 5, when the Eagles face Allegheny College at 1:00 p.m. in Meadville, Pa.
