Woodrow Named Landmark Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year

TOWSON, Md. – Joey Woodrow of Juniata College has been named the 2024–25 Landmark Conference Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, established in 2020–21, is presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete selected from the conference's sport-specific Senior Scholar-Athlete honorees. Woodrow will now advance for consideration in the Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA) National Scholar-Athlete of the Year selection process.

With a 3.99 grade point average, a degree in chemistry, and minors in biology and bioethics, Woodrow exemplified what it meant to be a student-athlete. He was a three-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll selection, recipient of the Rockwell Chemistry Prize and multiple scholarships, and contributed to two undergraduate research manuscripts. He will begin medical school at Duquesne University this fall.

Throughout his academic journey, Woodrow extended his success beyond the classroom. He tutored chemistry students, volunteered at youth outreach events like Chem Camp, and was active in the chemistry club. He also co-founded a student-athlete Bible study group that quickly grew to over 30 members and became a meaningful part of the campus community.

"I am incredibly thankful to the Landmark Conference for this honor," said Woodrow. "Juniata provided the tools for me to accomplish my goals on and off the field, to impact the community around me, and for my teammates and me to grow in our faith. I wouldn't trade my four years for anything, and I am super grateful for how prepared this experience has made me for the next step in life."

As a leader on the baseball team, Woodrow organized large-group service initiatives, including storm recovery projects, Special Olympics participation, blood drives, the United Way Day of Caring, and a property cleanup for a local man with disabilities.

On the field, Woodrow was a four-year contributor behind the plate and at designated hitter. He appeared in 124 career games, finishing with 125 hits, 74 RBI, 30 doubles, and a .296 career batting average. He ranks fourth in Juniata program history in sacrifice flies (10), and 10th in both doubles (30) and putouts (472).

"Joey has been a mainstay in our lineup since the moment he stepped on campus, and I knew from day one he was a special player, but more importantly, he was a special person," said Juniata head baseball coach Pat Christopher. "He is an exemplary student-athlete who truly represents Juniata College Baseball and the Landmark Conference. Joey is a "cornerstone player" in our program, both on and off the field; he embodies our program values of trust, accountability, and respect. I am so incredibly grateful for Joey's contributions to our program that surpass the diamond. He prioritized his rigorous academic schedule and balanced his baseball development flawlessly throughout his career, and always challenged himself to become a better player, person, and student. I am so proud to have had the opportunity to coach such a special young person."

His standout junior season in 2024 included career highs in nearly every offensive category: a .345 batting average, 48 hits, 15 doubles (tied for second-most in program history), 32 RBI, and 24 runs scored. He also earned Landmark All-Conference First Team honors and was named to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Region Third Team (Region 5). Defensively, he posted a .989 fielding percentage with 169 putouts, 12 assists, and seven caught base stealers. He holds single-game program records for hits (4), doubles (2), and runs (3).
