HUNTINGDON, Pa—The Juniata baseball team lost two games to visiting Drew University, 10-6 and 9-4, Friday afternoon at Langdon-Goodale Field.
The Rangers jumped ahead in the first inning of game one, putting up four runs on a two-run double and two RBI singles.
Ethan Pfeffer got the Eagles back on the board with an RBI-double to left to score Zach Johnston.
The Rangers responded in the fourth with a grand slam to center field.
Juniata slowly chipped away at the lead, scoring a run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
Pfeffer and Jackson Cunnane drove in once run apiece to make it 8-6 in the eighth.
The Rangers plated two insurance runs with a two-run single to left, and Juniata couldn't scrape together any more runs.
Pfeffer went 3-5 with three RBI, a double, and a run scored. Cunnane went 3-4 with a double, two RBI, a stolen base, and a walk. Aidan Chermol started and went 4.0 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Connor Rohm pitched the final five innings in relief, allowing two runs with two walks and four strikeouts.
In game two, the Rangers again struck first, this time with an RBI-single to right. Jace Irvin countered with a blast to left to tie things at 1-1.
The Rangers added three more, on a fielder's choice and later with a two-run single through the left side.
Charlie Bakken drove in Ricky Scott in the sixth, and Irvin drew a bases-loaded walk to score Jacob Despot.
Drew came back with an RBI-double in the seventh, and four additional runs in the eighth pushed the deficit to six. To end the inning, Scott made a spectacular diving catch in center before throwing out the runner who hadn't tagged up at second.
Cunnane drove in one run in the eighth with another bases-loaded walk, scoring Bakken.
Juniata will finish the series with Drew tomorrow at 11:30 am.
