LANCASTER, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team couldn't quite complete the comeback as they lost a high-scoring affair at Lancaster Bible, 20-17, Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles exploded for eight runs in the first. With the bases loaded, David Beard singled to drive in Corey Daniels, with Evan Mock and Michael Warren scoring on an error by the first baseman. Joey Allegrini smashed a two-run homer, and later Dakotah Snyder crushed a three-run homer over the center field fence with Caden Collins and Jace Irvin on base as Juniata led 8-0 through the first inning.
RBI singles from Beard and Irvin in the second increased the lead to ten, but the Chargers would mount a massive charge across the next two innings.
The home team scored four runs in the second, six in the third, and six in the fourth as they jumped ahead 16-10.
Snyder crossed the plate in the fifth on an Evan Mock strikeout to bring the Eagles within five, but a solo shot and a three-run homer put Lancaster Bible back up by nine.
The Eagles made a valiant go of it in the ninth, with JR Harrison leading off by getting hit by a pitch. Charlie Bakken was also hit by a pitch, and Warren clobbered a ball over the fence in left to slice the deficit to six. Eric Soccio drew a walk but was out heading to second on Sebastian Tringali's fielder's choice. Tringali got to second on a balk and got to third on a passed ball. Aaron Bollinger drew a walk, and Tim Coleman plated both runners with a double to right center. Snyder sent Coleman home with an RBI single to left as Juniata got within three, but the Eagles couldn't generate any more runs.
Juniata will host Alvernia this Saturday at Langdon-Goodale Field. First pitch is at 12:00
