Eagles Fall Behind Early to Blazers

Eagles Fall Behind Early to Blazers

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College hit Eagles pitching for 13 runs in the first four innings as the Juniata baseball team fell 14-6 to the Blazers on Thursday afternoon.

Juniata struggled offensively and defensively throughout the day, with just five hits and five total defensive errors, the most in a single game this season.

Evan Mock collected two RBIs to lead scoring for Juniata on the day, while Joey Allegrini scored a run on a single, and Joey Woodrow scored a run on a sacrifice fly while recording the team's lone extra-base hit with a double in the fourth inning. Corey Daniels went 1-for2- with two walks, while Dakotah Snyder reached base twice with a pair of walks.

The final four Juniata pitchers, including Devon Coldren, Jason Waguespack, Nic Flaherty, and Zachary Malone combined for no earned runs with just four hits over the final four innings.

Juniata posted three runs in the first inning and left with a three-run lead through the first. Snyder and Daniels opened the game with a walk, then Mock was hit before an infield fielder's choice scored a run with the runner out at second base on the play. Allegrini stole second to get runners to second and third base, followed by a Woodrow sacrifice fly, advancing Allegrini to third. He then took advantage of a balk to end the scoring.

Hood didn't get a runner aboard until recording two outs, as they strung together a single, walk, and single up the middle before getting caught in a rundown on an attempted steal of second.

Juniata went down in order in the second, then conceded five runs in the bottom half in a two-out sequence that saw a hit batter, triple, two-straight singles, an infield error, and a runner scoring from third on a throw to second base on a steal.

Hood found four more runs in the third inning to go ahead 10-3. This time, they posted four hits with one error on a throw to third on a steal.

The fourth saw three more runs in a sequence of a walk, throwing error, walk, fielder's choice, sacrifice fly, and bases-clearing double.

Two Hood errors and a hit batter got the bases loaded for Juniata in the fifth inning before the Blazers produced a double play to second.

Hood scored one run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a bunt single, followed by another infield error for Juniata.

Juniata scored three runs for the 14-6 scoreline that held to the finish. They opened with two singles before a throwing error scored a run and moved runners to first and third. A walk loaded the bases, then Mock singled to left field to score two runs to end scoring, and no runners got into scoring position the rest of the way for either side.

Juniata looks to snap a five-game losing streak next Tuesday with a trip to Dickinson with a 3:30 pm first pitch.
