HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The success of the 2014 season for the Juniata College men's tennis team continues to mount as the Eagles set a new program record for wins in a singles season and tied The University of Scranton for the most Landmark Conference wins in a single season. The victory over Drew marks the first time the Eagles have prevailed over the Rangers since the foundation of the Landmark back in 2007 and clinches the regular season Landmark title for the first time in program history. Juniata is now 15-0 on the year and 6-0 in league play.
In the final home match of their Juniata careers, seniors Elliott Perow (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) and Justin Wisniewski (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown) both earned two wins on the day, claiming their respective singles matches in straight sets and earning the wins at the No. 4 and No. 3 singles positions, respectively. With the win, Wisniewski ties a program record for career wins at 47 and is still undefeated in dual match play at 15-0.
Perow claimed his singles match in dominant fashion, winning 6-0, 6-1 and teamed up with sophomore Mike Lifshitz (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Academy) for the 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. Wisniewski and doubles partner Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, Pa. / Garnet Valley) took No. 2 doubles 8-2 and Gregory earned his second win of the year at the No. 2 singles position, his 14th overall this season, and ninth consecutive singles win.
Freshman Dean Polisena (Adelaide, Australia / Saint Ignatius) and sophomore Logan Moore (Chadds Ford, Pa. / Unionville) gutted their way through an 8-6 win at the top doubles spot. Polisena won his fourth consecutive No. 1 singles match and Moore grabbed his fifth win in a row at the No. 5 position.
Juniata will take its perfect record on the road for the final Landmark match of the season this Thursday, April 17, at Goucher College.
