Scholly, McCoy, Miles, Morgan named to Landmark Conference 2012 Winter All-Academic Team

Scholly, McCoy, Miles, Morgan named to Landmark Conference 2012 Winter All-Academic Team

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Four Juniata College student-athletes were among those named to the Landmark Conference 2012 Winter All-Academic Team, which was announced Friday.

Juniata’s Winter 2012 All-Academic team selections are Brian Scholly (State College, Pa./State College Area), Aaron McCoy (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville), Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township), and Kelsey Miles (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon)

Scholly, ranked fourth for Juniata in scoring and led the team with 55 three pointers, the fifth highest in the league, in his sophomore campaign. He averaged 9.9 points and 4.8 rebounds as Juniata reached the Landmark Championship game and the ECAC Postseason as the No. 1 seed. After two seasons, he has amassed 445 points, 212 rebounds, and 88 three-pointers. Off the court he’s studying history, is a member of the National Spanish Honor Society, and is part of a Best Buddies program at his high school alma mater.

McCoy has earned All-Conference honors by placing second in the 55-meter dash at the Landmark Indoor Championships with a time of 7.15 seconds, and third in the 200m with a time of 23.51 seconds. At the 2011 Landmark outdoor meet, McCoy was third in the 100m dash (11.34) and fourth in the 200m (23.13). McCoy also finished third in the 100m dash at the 2010 Landmark outdoor meet with a time of 11.11 seconds. He had three paintings selected for the Juniata’s 2012 Student Art Exhibit, is the layout editor for the Juniatian, works full-time in Juniata’s Communications & Marketing Office, and is majoring in marketing and graphic arts.

Miles set four personal bests for the Juniata swim team in her sophomore year. She swam the third fastest time in Juniata history and placed seventh at the Landmark meet in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:22.06 time, helping the team to a best-ever sixth-place finish. Miles is member of the Special Olympics Committee, participates in Habitat for Humanity, serves as the assistant horseback riding instructor at Stone Mountain Adventures, and is an elementary and special education major.

Morgan ran some of the fastest times in Juniata history in the indoor track season. She set a new PR in the mile (5:31.62), the fourth-fastest time in school history, and then was again the fourth-fastest in the indoor 5,000 with a time of 18:48.13. The 2010-11 Landmark Conference Honor Roll Selection, took fourth at the Susquehanna Orange and Maroon Classic (1/22) in the 3000m run with a personal best time of 11:24.20. Morgan assisted at a homeless shelter, a women’s rights campaign, and hunger relief organization as part of a program in Philadelphia, and is studying social work.

Two male and two female student-athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions are selected for the Landmark Conference All-Academic Team, which honors athletes who have excelled academically and athletically.  Nominees may come from any of the Landmark winter sports, and must have sophomore standing or higher with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better.  The Landmark Conference will select an All-Academic team for each of the three athletics seasons during the year.
