Eagles Stymie Saints

HUNTINGDON, Pa-  The Juniata women's volleyball team opened the day with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-17) win over visiting Marymount, Saturday morning. 

The teams were evenly match through the opening set, as the Saints pulled even at 12. Several Marymount errors along with a kill from Morgan Edwards (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and an ace by Makenna Hallager (Glenolden, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) put Juniata up, 17-12. The Saints again got within three, 19-16, but the Eagles took control from there. A kill from Marybeth Weihbrecht (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and an ace by Lauren Levi (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City HS) followed by a Saint error made it 22-16. A kill from Victoria Taylor (Middeltown, Del./Delaware Military Academy) and a Saint attack error gave JC set point. Katie Byrne's (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) ace ended set one, 25-17. 

The second set followed a similar path, with the score at 9-9 Juniata went on a 8-3 surge to go up 17-12. The Saints used an ace to narrow the Eagle lead to three before kills from Weihbrecht and Taylor pushed the lead back to five. Later, with the score at 18-22, Taylor notched two straight kills to give JC set point. The Saints did not back town, taking the next three points and JC called timeout. Taylor ended the set with another kill, 25-21.

Juniata had their most effective set in third as they hit .406 as a squad. With the score at 22-17 a kill from Levi and two more kills from Taylor ended the match at 25-17. Taylor's final kill brought her to 20, which ties a career high. 

Juniata will face Arcadia at 6:00.
