Women's Volleyball Announces Class of 2020

Women's Volleyball Announces Class of 2020

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata women's volleyball team welcomes five freshmen commits to the pack as they look ahead to their 2016-17 season. Joining the Eagles next season are Rachel Boe (San Carlos, Calif. / Saint Francis), Megan Conger (Rockville, Md. / Our Lady of Good Counsel), Dejia Danhi (Ashburn, Va. / Stone Bridge), Morgan Edwards (Lancaster, Pa. / Penn Manor) and Korin Koehler (Whitehall, Pa. / Whitehall).

Boe joins the Eagles from one of the most competitive conferences in California, the California Interscholastic Federation's Central Coast Section. Her experiences have led her to develop versatile skills that Juniata head coach Heather Pavlik believes will make her a great asset to the team.

"At points in her high school and club career, Rachel has played all three front row positions and done very well," Pavlik said. "This versatility will be invaluable for her and for the team over the next four years."

Coming from such a competitive program will help Boe transition to playing at the collegiate level.

"Her length and experience playing against very good competition on the West Coast will serve her well in the collegiate game," Pavlik said. "She is a positive, steady player that will be a great asset to the program."

Decorated attacker Megan Conger joins Juniata from Rockville, Md. Conger led her home state in hitting percentage for the last two years.

"Megan is a complete volleyball player and an extremely intense competitor," Pavlik said. "She brings a passion and energy to the game that is infectious when she's on the court and has a fun, engaging personality off the court as well."

In her final campaign at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Conger was named to the First Team Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and the First Team All-Met.

"Megan excels in all phases of the game," Pavlik said. "We are looking forward to her making an immediate impact in our training gym."

The Eagles welcome opposite Dejia Danhi from Ashburn, Va.

"Dejia is barely scratching the surface of the great player that she can become," Pavlik said. "She's an elite blocker, has a great frame and has the ability to become an elite attacker as well."

In her senior year at Stone Bridge, Danhi was named to the First Team All-State, First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region. She totaled 87 solo blocks on the season, including a handful that helped the Stone Bridge Bulldogs to their first state championship. Danhi recorded five blocks in the fifth set of Virginia's 5A volleyball championship to lead the team to a 3-2 victory over the Potamac Falls Panthers.

"Her natural gifts, along with her fun personality, make Dejia someone that the coaching staff is really looking forward to working with," Pavlik said.

Morgan Edwards from Lancaster, Pa. also received high praise from Pavlik for her blocking abilities.

"Morgan is an extremely physical player," Pavlik said. "She hits a heavy ball and is a very good blocker. Her ball control skills are solid, even with the limited opportunities to develop them so far in her volleyball career. This is an area of her game that we feel will develop quickly once she is in our gym."

While at Penn Manor, Edwards was named team captain for her junior and senior seasons. She received Academic League All-Star honors and lettered each year of her career.

"The sky is the limit for Morgan and we're excited to watch her develop," Pavlik said.

Rounding out the 2016-17 freshmen is Korin Koehler, a libero from Whitehall, Pa.

The tri-athlete from Whitehall totaled nine varsity letters as a Zephyr, including four as a libero.

"Korin has the perfect mindset for a defensive player," Pavlik said. "She is aggressive, confident and positive. She is a very solid passer and a quick, relentless defensive player. She is solid from the service line as well."

Koehler received PIAA District 11 AAA All-Star team honors in 2015-16.

"Korin's personality, along with her skills, make her a perfect fit for the school and our program," Pavlik said.
