Eagles Serve Up a Conference Win, Defeating Drew 8-1

MADISON, NJ – The Juniata women's tennis team (8-4, 2-1 LC) gained ground in the Landmark Conference Saturday afternoon with an 8-1 win over Drew University (3-4, 0-3 LC).

Heather Waring (San Antonio, TX / John Jay) defeated Deanna Williams of the Rangers 6-2 in both sets. Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, OH / Padua Franciscan) was edged out by Katie Marshal 6-4 in both sets. Katharine Conklin (Freehold, NJ / Freehold Township) beat Jessica Cheng 6-2 and 6-3. Samantha Hendricks (McVeytown, PA / Mifflin County) had a strong performance against Megan Jarvis, shutting her out once and winning the following set 6-3. Cara Stough (Friendsville, MD / Northern Garrett) faced Kirby Clark and won 6-0, 6-2. Devin Ryman (Kingston, PA / Wyoming Valley West) rounded things out for the singles competition, defeating Kathryn Swenor after three sets (6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-4)).

In doubles, Waring and Yurchisin defeated Marshall and Cheng 8-3. Conklin and Stough beat Williams and Clark 8-1. Hendricks and Mitsuki Koh (Cupertino, CA / Monta Vista) also won their doubles match with a final of 8-2 against Alex Scarborough and Jarvis.

Eagles' tennis returns home Monday, April 6 for a conference match against Elizabethtown (7-2, 1-0 LC) at 2PM. Juniata is currently in sole possession of fourth place in Landmark standings after previously being tied at fourth with Goucher.
