HUNTINGDON, PA – The Juniata women's tennis team (12-5, 5-2 Landmark) finished their regular season with a sweep over Stevenson (3-9) Friday afternoon on Senior Day. Heather Waring (San Antonio, TX / John Jay) and Cara Stough (Friendsville, MD / Northern Garrett) were honored before the match with t-shirts signed by their teammates and a collage of pictures highlighting their time at Juniata.
Waring set a new Landmark Conference record Friday when she won her 48th-career doubles match. The previous record (47) was held by Meghan Lee (Goucher, 2009-13) and Katie Zien (Moravian, 2010-14).
Waring and Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, OH / Padua Franciscan) blanked their doubles competition and finished flawless in their singles as well. Katharine Conklin (Freehold, NJ / Freehold Township) and Stough defeated the Mustangs 8-3 in doubles. Mitsuki Koh (Cupertino, CA / Monta Vista) and Samantha Hendricks (McVeytown, PA / Mifflin County) also won their doubles match 8-0. Koh went 6-0, 6-0 in her singles win and Hendricks only gave up one point, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Conklin won her singles competition 6-4, 6-2. Emma Sebastian (Pittsburgh, PA / Upper St. Clair) played singles in the sixth flight spot and won 6-1, 6-4.
Juniata now prepares for the Landmark Semifinals against Scranton (11-3, 6-1 Landmark)* April 29 at 3:00pm on the Royal Court. Earlier this season, the Eagles fell 3-6 to the Royals at home in a tightly contested match.
