Juniata Prepares for Playoff Matchup With Goucher

Juniata Prepares for Playoff Matchup With Goucher

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata women's tennis team will begin just the third playoff run in program history when they travel to play Goucher in the Landmark Tournament semifinals. The team's playoff berth represents just the second for Juniata since entering the Landmark Conference.

The Eagles went 13-5 in 2012-2013 but could not manage to defeat Goucher, who they fell to in the previous year as well. Juniata lost by a score of 7-2 but will look to build on strong performances in an attempt to unseat the top seeded Gophers.

In their last meeting the Eagles' earned a win in singles play behind freshman Tori Gray (York, Pa./Central York) and battled in doubles play. Gray paired with fellow freshman Mitsuki Koh(Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) to push Goucher to a 9-7 match. In the No.1 doubles position junior Megan Phillips (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and sophomore Heather Waring (San Antonio, Texas/John Jay) also fought hard in a 8-6 loss. Juniata will look to turn things in their favor in the playoff rematch.

Goucher enters the match having just lost on the road against Scranton, but the Gophers have won three of their last five. On the other side, the Eagles are also coming off of a loss, but had won four in a row prior to their defeat against Catholic.

The Eagles will look to bounce back from their loss against Catholic, and redeem themselves for their earlier loss to Goucher when the two teams meet at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 24th.
