Juniata Earns First Playoff Berth Since 2008-09

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College women's tennis team earned their first Landmark Conference playoff berth since 2008-09, Tuesday night. The Eagles' playoff berth marks just the second time the team has made it into the playoffs since entering the Landmark Conference in 2007-08.

The Eagles, who were picked to finish last in the Landmark, defied those odds and currently own a 3-2 record in conference play, which puts them in a third place tie overall. Beyond that, a win in their last match against Landmark foe, Catholic University, would give them the highest overall win total of any team in the conference.

Said head coach Jason Cohen at the beginning of the season, "I am most looking forward to having a full year to implement the things I would like to and see them manifest in the team". With increased focus on work ethic and physical fitness, Cohen has certainly seen those changes. The Eagles were just 6-10 last year and have bounced back to go 13-4 in 2012-2013.

Juniata's 13 wins on the year moved them into a tie for the most single season wins in program history. With a win against Catholic on Saturday the Eagles could break that record, and potentially earn the second seed in the Landmark tournament. The match against Catholic will take place at 12 PM at home on the Raffensperger Tennis Courts.
