Women’s Soccer Drops Heartbreaker to Moravian in Overtime, 2-1

HUNTINGDON, PA- The Juniata women's soccer team hosted Moravian on Saturday afternoon at Winton Hill Field. The Eagles scored first but the Greyhounds tied to forced overtime and hit the game-winner 4:35 into the extra period to come away with a 2-1 win. The loss drops JC to 4-6-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the Landmark.

 

The two teams were scoreless in the first half.  JC almost had the early the lead when Shayna King (Easton, PA/Easton Area) hit shot that went off the left corner of the post. Goalkeeper Kerry Leonard (Cockeysville, MD/Maryvale Prep) had three saves in the first half to keep Moravian off the board.

 

In the 71st minute, the Eagles were granted two straight corner kicks with both being taken by Michaela Lacek (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern). Following the second attempt, the ball was played in the front of the goal and Cheyenne Brown (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) hit a shot through the defense and past Greyhound goalie Jacqueline Belis to put Juniata up 1-0. It was Brown's first collegiate goal.

 

The Eagle lead lasted exactly eight minutes. Leonard got caught up with a couple of Moravian players and Melissa Walko put away the loose ball into the net to tie the match at 1-1.

 

For the fourth time this season, Juniata went into a third period. Both teams registered a shot but it was Moravian that made good on it as Kristen Schall scored the game winner in the 95th minute.

 

Leonard came up with a total of six saves in the game. Zalis had just two. Moravian led in shots 12-8 and had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

 

Juniata will look to rebound this Wednesday when they host Landmark rival Susquehanna. Game time will be at 3:30 p.m.
