Softball Drops Two on Day One of the Spring Games

MINNEOLA, Fla.- The Juniata softball team dropped their first two games of the week at The Spring Games. The Eagles fell, 9-1 against Montclair St. and 13-1 against Westminster (Pa.).

In game one against Montclair St., the Eagles scored their lone run in the first inning. Molly Ulrich (Homer, N.Y. / Homer Central) singled then advanced to second as Ashley Clark (Saxton, Pa. / Tussey Mountain) was walked. On a ground out to shortstop, Ulrich and Clark advanced. Maggie Peck (Philipsburg, Pa. / Philipsburg Osceola) doubled down the right field line to allow Ulrich to run home. The Red Hawks picked up two runs in the third to take the lead. Montclair St. then scored three in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth to win, 9-1. 

Game two saw Westminster (Pa.) take the lead early as they score three runs in the first. Juniata cut the Titans lead as the Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the first. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa. / State College) singled to left field and then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. After a ground out to the catcher, Shedlock ran home. The Titans the scored one in the second and third, three in the fourth, and five in the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles scored one final run but it wasn't enough to beat the Titans. Peck hit her first homerun of the season as Juniata fell, 13-2 to Westminster (Pa.). 

Juniata returns to the field tomorrow as they face Alverno at 4 PM and DeSales at 6:30 PM.
