Shedlock Selected as ECAC South Rookie of the Year

DANBURY, CONN.- The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its major awards and All-Star selections in softball on Thursday. Freshman outfielder Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa./State College) was named the South Region Rookie of the Year.

 

This is her second Rookie of the Year selection after earned the Landmark Conference's recognition earlier this month. She is the first Eagle to earn the ECAC's designation.

 

Shedlock enjoyed an impressive freshman campaign for Juniata. She started 39 of the Eagles' 40 games collecting a .387 batting average on 41 hits and scored a team-best 28 runs. She had 10 doubles, three triples, and two home runs. In 106 at bats, Shedlock only struck out a mere five times while knocking in 27 runs.

 

In just her second collegiate game, Shedlock batted five runs in on 2-of-5 hitting as Juniata defeated New England College 16-8. She had a six-game hitting streak during the season and had 14 multiple hit games. Shedlock was named the Landmark and ECAC Player of the Week for the week of March 27 as she batted .625. Against Scranton, Shedlock was 5-for-6 with a double and a homerun, five runs scored, and two batted in as Juniata swept the Royals for the first time since 2009.
