Chargers Cruise Past Eagles

Sean Cavanagh

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's volleyball team lost to Lancaster Bible, 3-0 (18-25, 22-25, 20-25) Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Gymnasium as they split on the weekend.

Set one was a back and forth affair early, with a service error by the Chargers bringing the teams even at 9-9. Lancaster Bible took the next four points, all on kills, and Juniata never pulled even the rest of the set. A kill from Robert Bowling (Columbus, Ohio / Hilliard Darby), made it 17-20, but Lancaster Bible scored five of the final six points to easily take set one, 18-25.

Set two again saw the Chargers build a lead, going on a 5-0 run to lead 7-12. But the Eagles had an answer, as two errors by the visitors to go with a kill by Sean Cavanagh (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley), an ace by Austin Goodsel (Corry, Pa. / Fort Leboeuf HS), a block by Kevin Duffy (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle HS) and Bowling along with a Joe Fick (Venetia, Pa. / Peters Township) kill made it 13-12.  The teams traded points, with a service error pulling JC even at 16-16. The Chargers surged ahead, and while JC got within two several times, with a kill from Duffy making 22-24, Lancaster Bible put down a kill to take set two, 22-25.

Lancaster Bible led throughout in the final set, as Juniata fell behind by five, 12-17, and tried to claw back but couldn't quite pull it off. A kill from Duffy made it 20-22, but the Chargers ended the match by capturing the final three points to win 20-25.

Juniata will take on Southern Virginia in CVC play, Friday at 7:30.
