Eagles Declaw Bearcats

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's volleyball team started the day by winning handily against Saint Vincent, 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-15), Saturday morning inside Memorial Gymnasium. 

The Bearcats scored the first point of the match, but Juniata took the next seven. Joseph Chambers (West Hempstead, N.Y. / West Hempstead H.S.) tallied a kill, the Bearcats got whistled for a bad set, Chambers put down another kill, Max Cooley (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park H.S.) combined with Chambers for a block, Drew Hunker (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) smacked down a kill and the visitors committed two more errors. Later, with the score at 15-10, two errors by the Bearcats along with an ace from Chambers and a kill from Cooley made it 19-10. A Jordan Orth-Moore (Annapolis, Md. / International School of Kenya) ace gave JC set point, 24-15, and the teams traded service errors as the Eagles took set one 25-15.

Juniata .786 in set two as they completely controlled the second set. With the score at 5-4, the Eagles went on an 18-4 run to go-ahead  23-8. A Chambers kill gave the hosts set point, and the Eagles again won the set via service error. 

In the third set, the Eagles again built a substantial lead at 16-8, but Saint Vincent managed to claw their way back to within three at 17-14. The teams traded points to get to 18-15, but the Eagles closed on a 7-0 run with a big block from Tanner Kuruzovich (Matilda, Pa. / State College Area H.S.) ending the match.  

The Eagles will take on Lancaster Bible at 4:00.
