Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Alvernia to Clinch Playoff Spot

READING, Pa.- Needing a win in one of their last three matches to secure a spot in the Continental Volleyball Conference Tournament, the Juniata men's volleyball team did so with a resounding 3-0 victory over Alvernia on Wednesday night. The win, the Eagles' fourth in a row, improves their overall record to 17-10 and their CVC record to 9-3.

 

Juniata won with scores of 25-17, 25-11, and 25-12. JC led in all three sets and never trailed.

 

Alvernia was able to close to 14-12 in the first set. JC's lead stood at 21-17 and used a 5-0 run to put the Crusaders away.

 

The Crusaders trailed 8-7 in the second set but the Eagles went on a 17-4 run for the set win. Juniata used a 14-3 run in the third frame to break away from an 11-9 lead.

 

Kyle Seeley (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) led JC with 11 kills and hit .786. Quinn Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadown Ridge) added nine kills. Michael Young (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake Village) put up 32 assists. Sean Cavanagh (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) powered the defense with 12 digs.

 

The Eagles return to Memoria Gymnasium to host Rutgers-Newark on Friday night. Match time is at 7:00 p.m.
