Walters Breaks Program and Landmark Hammer Throw Record at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- Barrett Walters shattered the Landmark Conference and Juniata program record with his hammer throw mark, while Colson Lewis moved up to second place in program history in the 100 meters at the Shippensburg Mid-Week Meet on Wednesday. 

Walters earned fourth place in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.55 meters. He broke the Landmark record set by Moravian's Dan Jenkins, a 50.59-meter mark set in 2022. He surpassed Andrew Paterno's Juniata program record of 49.11 meters, set at the Widener Mideast Invitational in 2017.  

Lewis moved up a spot in the Juniata record book as he earned fourth place in the event with a time of 10.77 to move to second in program history. He surpassed Ray Shelley's time of 10.78 set in 1991, while he stands only behind Randy Anderson's time of 10.73 set at the 2006 Shippensburg Paul Kaiser Classic. Ivan Foreman set his first outdoor 100-meter time, finishing in 53rd place with a time of 12.41.  

The 4X400 meter relay team of Lincoln Riddle, Lewis, Caleb Massare, and Isaiah Huffstutler set the team's first time of the outdoor season, finishing in third place with a time of 43.41.  

Sean Buckley and Gavin Robb each earned the top eight slots in the pole vault. Buckley tied for sixth place with a mark of 3.60 meters on his first attempt. Robb was eighth with a mark of 3.60 meters on his second attempt, leveling his personal record.  

Riddle had Juniata's best time in the 200 meters, setting a season-best time of 23.42 to finish in 19th place. Massare set his first outdoor 200-meter time, finishing in 40th place with a time of 24.28. Buckley finished 58th with a time of 25.95. 

Robb, Max Scott, and Ellis Kline all raced in the 400 meters. Robb was 38th with a time of 1:00.32. Scott's first outdoor 400-meter time was 1:03.16 to earn 39th place, while Kline's first attempt earned him 40th place with a time of 1:04.22.  

CJ Coffey, Scott, and Kline raced in the 1500 meters. Coffey placed 17th with a time of 4:34.09, Scott placed 19th with a time of 4:42.85, and Kline placed 22nd with a time of 4:54.08.  

Massare in the high jump for the first time for Juniata. He finished in 12th place with a time of 1.63 meters. 

Walters also competed in the discus throw, finishing in 15th place with a mark of 38.87 meters.  

Gavin Robb logged his first javelin throw at the collegiate level. With a mark of 41.60 meters, he earned 13th place in the event.  

The Juniata men's track and field team will compete again this weekend as they head to the Gettysburg Mason-Dixon Invite on Saturday.
