Eagles Battle Royals to Scoreless Draw

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The men's soccer team played Landmark foe, Scranton, to a scoreless draw on Saturday at Gibbel Stadium.

In the first half, Scranton had five shots in an attempt to control the game, but Arun Subramanian (Metuchen, N.J. / Metuchen HS) was able to keep the Royals at bay with two saves. The Eagles were able to put the pressure on as well with a shot from Peter Kruse (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon) in the 30th minute along with a header from Kruse in the 36th, but Scranton's goalie stopped both efforts.

The hunger to score continued into the second half from both teams as the Royals fired off nine more shots. The Eagles saw shots from Braden Whisler (East Berlin, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) in the 69th minute and Victor Vandenbroek (Sarasota, FL / IMG) in the 78th minute, but neither could pierce through the Royal defense.

Going scoreless into the first overtime period, JC fought tooth and nail to get a goal, but Vandenbroek's shot in the 90th minute and Cohen Wilkin's (Allison Park, Pa. / Shaler) shot in the 97th were also unsuccessful.

Fatigued but canny, Juniata held off the Royals in the second overtime period to officially tie the game 0-0. This makes for the first draw between Juniata and Scranton in program history.

The men's soccer team travels to Penn College on Tuesday, October 5, for a 7:00 pm match.
