Eagles Fall 3-2 on the Road at Wilkes as Teams Combine for Five Second Half Goals

WILKES BARRE, Pa. - The Juniata men's soccer team fell at  Wilkes University, 3-2, Tuesday evening at Bruggeworth Field.

Despite 18 shots between the two teams, the first half of the match ended 0-0. With four saves, sophomore Arun Subramanian (Metuchen, N.J./ Metuchen) was able to shut down Wilkes' eight shots.

Colonel Xavier Guerreiro broke the deadlock with a goal in the first five minutes of the second half. JC looked for an equalizer with shots from freshman Victor Vandenbroek (Sarasota, FL./ IMG), but the Colonels instead found a second through Andrew Reichard in the 63rd minute.

Less than a minute later, junior Blake Cassel (Hummelstown, Pa./ North Allegheny) drove one into the back of the net to put the Eagles on the board. Juniata was ready to even the playing field, as sophomore Emmet Young (Swarthmore, Pa./ Srath Haven) hit senior Henry Doherty (Brunswick, Maine/ Brunswick) in the box off a corner, and he was able to head the ball into the net, tying the game at 2-2 in the 68th minute.

With less than ten minutes to go, Colonel Matthew Horwedel chipped the ball into the box off an indirect kick; the ball caromed off a JC defender and went in to make it 3-2.

Juniata again went searching for an equalizer, this time with shots from sophomore Fabian Garfias (Redwood City, Calif./ Summit Prep) and freshman Drew Murta (Exton, Pa./ Downingtown East), but the Wilkes defense held together to send the Eagles to 1-1 on the year.

The Eagles return to action Saturday as they travel to King's College (Pa.). for a 1:00 pm start.
