Young's Goal Cements Grady's First Win as Head Coach

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team used goals from Blake Cassel (Hummelstown, Pa./ North Allegheny High School)  and Emmet Young (Swarthmore, Pa./ Strath Haven High School) to edge visiting Westminster 2-1 at Gibbel Stadium on opening day.

In the first three minutes of the game, Cassel took advantage of an errant header from a Westminster Titan, controlled the ball out of the air with his chest, and ripped a shot from 19 yards away to put the Eagles up 1-0.

Westminster found an equalizer 18 minutes later, smashing the ball in at the near post.

Alvin Fuentes (Redwood City, Calif./ Summer Prep)Choen Wilkins (Allison Park, Pa./ Shaler), Nicholas Sinapius (Phoenixville, Pa./ Phoenixille) and Malvin Madzimbamuto (Oftringten, Switzerland / St. Thomas More High School) each managed a shot on frame as the Eagles attack kept the pressure up throughout the contest.

Young found the winner in the 74th minute, as he slid into a cross from Joseph Cianfichi (Portola Valley, CA / Gunn Highschool) and blasted the ball into the net.

Arun Subramanian (Metuchen, NJ / Metuchen High School) had a busy day between the posts but was equal to the task as he kept the Titans at bay most of the evening with four saves.

The Eagles take the road to face Wilkes University on Tuesday, September 7th at 7:00 pm.
