Men's Soccer Shut Out By Hood College

FREDERICK, MD – The Juniata men's soccer team was defeated by the Blazers from Hood College 0-3 Tuesday afternoon.

The Blazers jumped ahead early in the match and scored their first goal in the third minute mark off a misplayed ball from the Eagles. Hood's leading goal-scorer, Drew Demich, was able to get to the ball and sink a shot into the corner of the net to put Hood up 1-0. Demich would score again before the half came to an end.

In the first half, Juniata was outshot by the Blazers 5-12, 2-4 on goal. The Eagles found a spark in the second half and matched Hood with six shots despite being unable to score.

The Blazers would score their third goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 76th minute mark.

Dani Meyer-Arrivillaga (Durham, NC / Carolina Friends) and Chandler Steffen (Lewisberry, PA / Red Land) led the offensive effort for Juniata. Meyer-Arrivillaga recorded eight shots (two SOG) and Steffen recorded two shots, both on frame.

Achim Schwemmlein (NRW/Germany) played his first full 90 minutes of the season between the posts for the Eagles. Schwemmlein recorded four saves against the Blazers.

"One of the biggest things we've been working on with Achim is his aggression," head coach Dan Dubois said. "He started to communicate better with the back line today and was making good decisions. He couldn't have done anything differently to change the game. It will go a long way with his confidence."

Juniata returns to conference play Sat. Oct. 10 against Moravian at 1:00pm.
