Men’s soccer plays to a double overtime tie with Misericordia

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata men's soccer's fifth overtime match of the season ended in a 1-1 double overtime tie against Misericordia University, Wednesday afternoon at Winton Hill Field.

The Cougars struck first in the 48th minute when junior Andy Bush collected the ball off a blocked cross and snuck it by Juniata keeper Ezra Cassel (Denver, Pa./Cocalico).

Less than two minutes later, the Eagles tied the game when senior Luke Waddell (Muncy, Pa./Muncy) weaved the ball past the Cougar defense to find the foot of freshman Nick Weit (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), who placed the ball far post for his first collegiate goal.

The Eagles played an aggressive match racking up 20 fouls and four yellow cards, in order to keep Misericordia, who entered the game just recently getting bumped off the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Regional poll, to just one goal, 1.6 scores less than their goals-per-game average.

Cassel faced a total of 15 Misericordia (11-2-3) shots and did not allow the Cougars to capitalize on any of their 12 corner kicks and was credited with four saves over all 110 minutes of play.

"We have been playing great for the last couple of weeks and it is evident in how competitive we have been. Our last two matches have been against great teams, and we have battled into overtime in each. The team has a great attitude during training, and I have to say that it all starts with the seniors. Their dedication to this program has been the biggest reason for our recent run of good soccer, " said Head Coach Dan Dubois.

Juniata returns to Landmark Conference play at home when they honor their five seniors prior to Saturday's, Oct. 29, 1:00 p.m. Scranton match.
