Men’s soccer drops Pitt-Greensburg in season opener, 2-0

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Juniata College forward David Grim (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) assisted on a pair of goals to help spur the Eagles past the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg, 2-0, Tuesday afternoon in Greensburg, Pa.

Sophomore Jeffrey Gring (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) put Juniata on the scoreboard with a goal in the 10th minute. Sophomore Evan LaTourrette (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) put Juniata ahead 2-0 with a marker in the 31st minute. 

Junior Joe Kohler (Vienna, Va./James Madison) played the first half in goal, recording just one save in the opening 45 minutes. He was spelled by junior Brian Trinclisti (Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown) in the second half, with Trinclisti logging four saves. 

Bobcats keeper CJ Stangl recorded nine saves over his 90 minutes in the Pitt-Greensburg goal.

Juniata outshot Pitt-Greensburg 22-11, and had a 7-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities. The Eagles were whistled offsides on six occasions, while the Bobcats were called offsides four times.

Juniata (1-0-0) returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 3, when it travels to Westminster, Md., to face McDaniel College.
