BRADFORD, Pa. – The Juniata men's basketball team survived a late second half push and one overtime before falling on the road to Pitt-Bradford 80-77. The two program's first meeting went into double overtime Tuesday night and had 13 lead changes to go with its 11 ties.
Juniata dropped to 5-2 with the loss while Pitt-Bradford moved to 4-2 overall.
Five Eagles hit double-digits in points. Junior Jeremy Hays (McMechen, W.Va./John Marshall) led with a team-high 15 points. The guard had a game-high four steals and added three assists to his season total while going 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
Senior Alex Raymond (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Altoona) and junior Brian Scholly (State College, Pa./State College) finished right behind Hays with 14 and 13 points respectively. Senior Nate Higgins (St. Mary's Pa./Elk County Catholic) rounded out the starters in double-digits. He picked up 11 points and had a team-high five assists.
Putting in positive minutes off the bench was junior Lucas Mellott (Warfordsburg, Pa./Southern Fulton) who finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
Tyler Ferguson and Brandon McClester had a game-high 17 points each to lead Pitt-Bradford.
Juniata returns home this Friday and Saturday to host the 21st Annual Doc Greene Tournament Dec. 7-8. The Eagles take on Eastern University Friday night at 7:30 p.m. after Farmingdale State faces Valley Forge Christian at 5:30 p.m. The winners play on Saturday at 4 p.m. once the 2 p.m. consolation game has concluded.
