Field Hockey Suffers Heartbreaking 2-1 Loss to Lebanon Valley

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Juniata and Lebanon Valley faced off on Wednesday night at Knox Stadium. The two teams battled for 100 minutes and the Dutchwomen scored off a corner with no time remaining to come away with a 2-1 double overtime win.

 

The game seemed destined to go to strokes to decide a victor but with the clock winding down in the second overtime period, Lebanon Valley was granted a penalty corner. Rachel Gorman took the opportunity and the ball was able to find its way to teammate Megan Arnst who got a shot past Eagle goalkeeper Kylie Edwards (Danville, Pa./Danville) and in for the game winner.

 

Both squads fought through over 20 minutes of scoreless play in the first half with Juniata getting a pair of shots and a penalty corner. In the 21st minute, JC was able to break through as Rachel Weigel (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) snuck a shot past Dutchwomen goalkeeper Sarah DiMaggio and into the cage to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

 

Just over six minutes into the second half, Lebanon Valley would even the contest up on a goal by Casey Dombroski. Edwards would come up big in the half as she turned away five Dutchwomen shots.

 

Lebanon Valley led in overall shots 17-6. The Dutchwomen had a 9-1 advantage on the Eagles in both overtime periods. Penalty corners also favored the Dutchwomen 15-3.

 

Edwards got the start in the cage and totaled 12 saves in 88:11 of game time. Santana Mays (Parkton, Md./Hereford) saw 11:49 of action and had one save.

 

Juniata goes on the road Saturday to play #3 The College of New Jersey. Game time from Ewing, N.J. will be at 2:00 p.m.
