Juniata comes up short against No. 4 Falcons

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College field hockey couldn't find the back of the cage in a 2-0 loss to No. 4 Messiah College on Wednesday afternoon at Goodman Field at Knox Stadium.

Messiah (4-0) took 18 shots against Juniata (3-2), while the Eagles mustered just four shots and forced the Falcon goalie, Molly Gebrosky, to make just one save.

Janelle Howard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) played nearly 67 minutes in the cage for Juniata and recorded seven saves, and Shelby Miller (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) took the remainder of the game at goal and was untested.

Jill McNeish (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) recorded a defensive save, her first of the season, on a shot just 10 minutes into the first half.

Messiah scored in the 31st minute when Rachel Cox poked the ball passed Howard in a scramble following a Falcon penalty corner. Just three minutes later, Brooke Sands took a shot that was trapped by the feet of the Juniata defense that resulted in a penalty stroke by Natalie Ziegler that added another goal for Messiah.

Juniata will face Delaware Valley College at home on Saturday, September 15, at 1:00 p.m.
