Juniata field hockey named to NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award list

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College field hockey has been named to the 2011 Division III National Academic Team Award list by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), announced Monday.

Juniata was one of 106 Division III programs to receive the distinction, which is presented by the NFHCA to all programs with a team grade points average of 3.00 or higher.

Additionally, a group of players made the 3.00 gpa cut for the 2011 NFHCA D-III National Academic Squad. 

Seniors Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield), Caitlyn Bowman (Seven Valleys, Pa./Dallastown), Kara Buda (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley), Caitlin Davies (St. Paul, Minn./Ann Arbor), Shauna Deschenes (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita), Brittany Kauffman (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove), Meg McGlone (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh), Ellen Santa Maria (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven), and Vicky Thorton (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) all earned the academic honor.

The seniors on the list were accompanied by sophomores Emma Dahmus (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), Emily Anne Moore (Winston-Salem, N.C./Forsyth Country Day), and Kathryn Brown (Manchester, Mich./Manchester). Freshmen Tori Buser (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), Kortney Showers (Aspers, Pa./Biglerville) and junior Caroline Phillips (Wilmington, Del./Concord) also were named to the squad.

The Eagles finished their 2011 season with an 11-9 overall record and went 3-3 in regular season Landmark Conference play.
