Field hockey stays atop Landmark with victory over Crusaders

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Sophomore Caitlyn Bowman (Seven Valleys, Pa./Dallastown) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Eagles past Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference field hockey action on Wednesday afternoon.

Juniata (9-3, 2-0) came out on fire as junior Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) scored 4:54 into the contest. Price received a centered ball from Bowman and beat Crusader goaltender Erin Ferguson for the game-winner.

Heading into the game tonight Price had 48 career goals, hoping to hit the 50 mark versus Susquehanna.

The game remained at 1-0 until the 34th minute, when Bowman collected a rebound off the pads of Ferguson and put ball into the back of the cage for the final goal of the afternoon and a 2-0 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Moira Nugent (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) extended her goalless streak to 265:25 minutes, stopping two shots in 70 minutes of action. Helping to preserve the team's seventh straight shutout was sophomore Meghan McGlone (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) who recorded five defensive saves. Ferguson finished with seven saves in 70 minutes of work for the Crusaders.

The Eagles outshot Susquehanna (4-8, 1-2) for the game 20-9 while out cornering them 12-11 as well.

Juniata returns to the field when it travels to its arch rival Catholic University on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m.
