Eagles Split with River Hawks at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team earned a split today on the road at Susquehanna, losing 15-5 before winning 8-6, Saturday afternoon at Bollinger Field. 

Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa. / Mifflin County High School) launched JC into the lead with a homer with one out in the top of the first, but the River Hawks came back with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning. They went for three more runs in the bottom of the second to push their lead to three. 

Maclay punched his second-round trip of the day, a lead-off solo shot in the top of the third. The River Hawks countered with a homer of their own. But they kept coming with three more in the fourth and another in the fifth to make it 9-2. 

Evan Mock (Mifflin County, Pa / McVeytown) drove in Ryan McClain (Hughesville, Pa. / Hughesville) in the sixth, but the River Hawks added another five in the bottom half which made it 15-3. 

Maclay smashed his third homer, this time with Dakotah Snyder (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg) on base, to make it 15-5. His three homers are the most in a single game in program history. 

In game two, both teams put up zeros in the first, but the Eagle bats got to work in the second. Jake Swank (Portage, Pa. / Portage) singled to right field and Michael Warren (New Berlin, Pa. / Mifflinburg Area)doubled to left. Ben Peterson (York, Pa. / Central York) singled to right to scored Swank and Warren scored from third on an error by the catcher while Peterson took second. Mock was hit by a pitch, Peterson got to third on an error before McClain cleared the bases with a triple as JC led 4-0. 

In the top of the third, Snyder drew a leadoff walk, Swank singled to left and Warren walked to load the bases. Two batters later Peterson flew out to right to score Snyder and Swank advanced to third before scoring on a wild pitch.  

The River Hawks only needed one inning to tie the game as they scored on a solo homer, a three-run homer, an RBI-double to left, and a wild pitch to make it 6-6 through three innings. 

In the top of the sixth, Mock reach on an error and with two outs McClain sent him home with a double to left-center. He advanced to third on a wild pitched, Maclay was intentionally walked and McClain scored on a balk. 

Jack Dovidio (Glenmore, Pa. / Downingtown West) got the win in relief for the Eagles as he went 4.1 innings while allowing four hits, one earned run, walking one batter and striking out four. 

Tomorrow's game is postponed and tentatively rescheduled for May 8th

Juniata will take on Catholic Friday at 12:30.
