Baseball Comes Back to Win Game One, Splits on the Day at Drew

Madison, N.J.- The Juniata baseball team came back to win 10-8 before falling 22-8 at Drew, Sunday afternoon at Doc Young Field. 

Juniata opened the game pushing one run across. Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) reached on an infield single and Dillon Hippensteel (Dillsburg, Pa./York Catholic) advanced him to second with a ground to the first baseman. Carper got to third on a wild pitch before Chris Schreder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) grounded out to short to send him home. 

The Rangers came back with a five spot in the bottom half in the inning. In the bottom of the fourth Drew scored one more via a sacrifice fly.   

Down 7-1 Juniata scored four in the top of the fifth. Ryan McClain (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) walked, Carper singled to center before Larry Corle (Martinsburg, Pa./Central High School) came in to pinch-hit and singled through the left side. McClain scored from second while Corle got to second on a throwing error by the left fielder. Schreder hit an infield single to score Carper and get Corle to third. Schreder stole second and Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa. /Northeastern) walked to load the bases. Austin Suders (Marion, Pa./Chambersburg Area) lined a single to right center which plated Schreder and Corle as Juniata sliced the deficit to two at 7-5. 

Drew scored once in the bottom half of the inning and both teams put up zeros as Juniata went into the seventh down 8-5. 

Schreder opened with a walk and Kipp was hit by a pitch. Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa./Mifflin County HS) ripped a single to left to load the bases. Suders roped a single to left center which allowed Kipp and Schreder to score. Ben Raab (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) came in to pinch-hit and singled to right to load the bases. McClain singled through the left side which scored Maclay and Carper followed with a single down the right field line which scored pinch runners Zane Morgan (Bigler, Pa./Clearfield Area) and Joshua Gery (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown Senior HS) as Juniata took a 10-8 lead. 

In the bottom half of the inning, J.D. Weyant (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge)got the first batter to pop up in foul territory near first before Jesse Beeler (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) entered to finish the game. He got the final two batters to fly out, first to right and the final to center to get the save as Juniata won game one. 

Juniata opened game two with an RBI double from Kipp and a Cameron Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./Blairsville) two-run single to right had JC up 3-0 after the top half of the first. The Rangers got one back in the bottom half of the inning via a sac fly to right and they were not done. 

The Rangers plated four runs in the second, six runs in the third and another in the fifth as they led 12-3 after five. 

In the top of the sixth, Kipp smashed a homer to right and McClain drove in two runs with a single to right. Gery also managed to score on a throwing error by the right fielder to make it 12-7. Drew continued to stay hot at the dish as they drove in eight in the sixth and two more in the eighth to make it 22-7. 

A Raab sac fly to center in the ninth allowed Cory Focht (Warriors Mark, Pa./Tyrone) to score.

The Eagles will return to action against Mt. Aloysius, Thursday. First pitch is at 1:00.
