Juniata Splits with Susquehanna on First Day of Series

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Juniata College baseball split with Landmark Conference rival Susquehanna University Saturday. The Eagles held on for the 5-3 win in game one, but then fell 3-2 in the nightcap from a walkoff bunt single in extra innings.  Juniata improved to 10-25 overall while Susquehanna moved to 14-24.

Junior Dan Gray (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) went 4-for-7 at the plate with a double and two runs scored.  Fellow junior Joe Sforza (Pittstown, N.J./Immaculata) earned his second win of the season after going six innings and striking out a season-best seven batters.

And junior Mario DeYulius (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) picked up his first save of the year by coming in at the bottom of the seventh and getting the last two batters to pop and fly out.

The two teams close out the series on Sunday, April 28 at noon.  It will be the first of the Eagles final two contests in the 2013 season.  Juniata will conclude the season on the road at Pitt-Bradford on Tuesday, April 30.
