Outfielder Ben Mersky Named Landmark Player of the Week

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Senior Ben Mersky (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) of the Juniata College baseball team was named Landmark Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.  Mersky helped lead the Eagles to a 3-2 week including a series win over conference rival Drew University.  He is the 12th Eagle to receive the honor all-time and first for Juniata this year.

"Ben is a gritty baseball player," said head coach Jesse Leonard.  "His style of play is addicting and it has definitely rubbed on the rest of the team.  The honor is reflective of the work he has put in this season."

Mersky hit .421 over five games with a .526 slugging percentage.  He finished the week with six runs, four RBI and two doubles.  The outfielder currently leads the team in hits and runs and has only struck out twice in 77 at-bats.

Juniata heads to Mt. Aloysius on Tuesday, April 9 for its next game.  They meet for a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
