Women's Tennis Earn First Conference Win Since '21 over Blue Jays

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's team flipped results from last year's match against Elizabethtown, earning a 5-4 win for the program's first conference match win since the spring 2021 season. 

Medina Yessenaliyeva and Celia Navarro de Torres efficiently dispatched their first doubles opponents 8-0, while Marta Celebic and Shveta Kalathur earned a third doubles win on default. Charley Madlock and Marilyn Ogof pushed their second doubles match to a tiebreaker before falling 7-8, 3-7.  

Yessenaliyeva won in first singles 6-3, 6-1, while Navarro de Torres earned a 6-1,6-2 victory in second singles. Celebic earned a sixth singles win by default. Madlock fell in her third singles tiebreaker 6-2, 5-7, 9-11, while Ogof lost in her fourth singles tiebreaker 2-6, 6-4, 9-11. Kalathur also lost her fifth singles match after a strong start, falling 6-4, 1-6, 0-6.  

The Juniata women's team host nonconference Trinity Washington University on Wednesday at 4:00 pm, the last match before the team's spring break trip to the UTSA National Tennis Center in Florida.
